Mewar Festival, Udaipur

  • The folks of Rajasthan welcome in Spring with celebration and merriment; in the form of the Mewar Festival. This fun festival is celebrated in the month of April every year. The women folk gather around and dress the images of Isar and Gauri (Shiva and Parvathy) amidst much ceremony. These are then carried in a procession through the different parts of the city, making its way finally to the Gangaur Ghats at the banks of Lake Pichola. The images are then taken on beautifully decorated boats while locals sing songs and dance. This is the time when tourists get a first-hand experience of the custom and practices in India. Once the procession is over, the Rajasthani folk gather together to display their traditional dance and music in a cultural event, which ends with a striking fireworks display.
